Sustainability: Can I use FSC paper with optilyz?
Sustainability plays a major role at optilyz, which is why e.g. all of our standard papers are FSC-certified and our printers also meet high sustainability requirements. Of course, companies can also have campaigns that are controlled via optilyz also FSC-certified (although this is more of a marketing issue, as we already work according to these high requirements).
What you need to consider
Each of our papers is already FSC certified.
If you explicitly choose FSC paper on the optilyz platform, this is our standard paper, which is additionally provided with a certificate, e.g:
A placeholder is required for a label that is 20 mm wide x 8 mm high. The label is made up of order-specific information, so each one is different.
Please note that there is an additional cost of € 200 per stand-alone mailing or per automation for the certification process.
This certification takes a few more days to print. The mailing goes through an external review process in advance as part of the certification. Therefore the certification may not be suitable for time-critical ad-hoc mailings.
The label will be inserted by our service provider as soon as the approval has been given.
The certification costs you more and of course changes the visual appearance of your mailing. You have less space for other information that you could put on the mailing.
How optilyz is committed to sustainability
The greatest lever for more sustainable print mailings is to target them better (i.e. away from mass mailings) and make them more relevant (i.e. away from irrelevant one-size-fits-all). With our software, we enable both and thus make a contribution to enabling companies to use print mailings not only more efficiently but also more sustainably. Instead of unread in the trash, our campaigns end up on kitchen tables and on refrigerators as relevant incentives that promote customer loyalty.
In addition, we are currently driving a number of other initiatives for extensive sustainability of the company, here we will go public with the results in 2021 and show where we can also set new standards in matters of sustainability.
Regardless of this, the print mailing industry also meets the following requirements:
No rainforest is cleared for printed products: The European Timber Regulation EUTR strictly supervises the import of wood into Europe. This means that illegally felled wood and wood products cannot be marketed in the EU. All traders who sell wood or wood products, including paper, in the EU for the first time must meet the EUTR's due diligence obligations. The European paper industry therefore does not obtain any raw materials from regions such as Indonesia, where overexploitation is taking place.
No forest is cleared for printed products: The trunk wood of mature trees is far too valuable for the paper and printing industry. It is mainly used for houses and furniture. In Germany, fresh fibers for paper come mainly from thinning wood and sawmill waste. When thinning, foresters take weaker trees out of the forest to give the remaining trees better growth opportunities.
